The aim of this test is to assess the quality of the
instruction you give and your ability to communicate at an appropriate
level with your pupils whilst the car is moving. During the test which
is in two parts, each lasting about half an hour you will be asked to
demonstrate your knowledge and ability by giving practical driving tuition
to the examiner.
The examiner will first take the role of a pupil who is a beginner, or
one with limited driving experience, and he will expect you to introduce
him to a particular aspect of driving which he has not experienced previously.
He will then, for the second part of the test, take on the role of a
pupil who is about test standard or one who needs some form of driving
development.
The examiner will fully explain each role to you at the beginning of
each stage.
Part three is a practical test undertaken in a moving car during
which you will be expected to teach and identify errors about to be/being
made by the examiner while the car is moving at normal speeds.
Do not therefore be lulled into accepting a training course that
suggests the majority of study for this test is best covered in a
classroom environment rather than being ‘squeezed into a car’.
It is almost impossible to be ideally prepared for the test unless
you spend the majority of time developing the required skills, on
a 1:1 basis in a moving car.
