A Theory test of 100 questions.
All the questions are grouped into 10 subject groups
which, in turn, are banded into 4 main areas:-
Road Procedure
Traffic Signs and Signals, Car Control, Pedestrians,
Mechanical Knowledge
Driving Test, Disabilities, Law
Publications, Instructional Techniques
The overall pass mark for the written test is 85%.
However, you must reach a minimum mark of 80% in each of the 4 main
areas given above. It is therefore possible for you to get an overall
mark of 85% or higher but still fail the examination because you have
not gained a minimum of 80% in any one or more of the 4 groups. The
results of your
test will be available at the end of the test..
You can have an unlimited number of attempts at this
part of the examination.
Along with your pass certificate for the theory test
you will be given details of how to apply for the test of driving ability.
If you are dyslexic it may be possible to make special
arrangements for you. You must however be in a position to supply some
form of independent corroboration of your condition.
Hazard Perception Test
"A computer based test which comprimises of a
selection of film clips showing real road scenes and potential hazards.
Candidates will be assessed on how soon they spot the
dangers. Each candidate will be tested on 14 film clips chosen at random
from a series of 200.
The pass mark will be 57 out of a total of 75 possible
marks. The increases in pass marks and their timing will be kept under
review in the light of operational experiences.
Failure to pass either the existing multiple choice
section or the hazard perception test will result in failure of the
whole test."
